Spider
veins, also called telangiectasis or telangiectasia, are in a sense tiny
varicose veins in the skin. Their reddish to bluish color is the most common
cosmetic problem of women’s legs. Spider veins do not necessarily progress to
varicose veins but both are always abnormal and will not disappear without
treatment. Accurate diagnosis is vital to optimal treatment because the absence
of varicose veins does not necessarily mean that a possible underlying
abnormality can be ignored.
